So today, while I should be working, I'm creating another newsletter to share what's going on with us. Remodel — need I say more? If you've ever lived in your home while remodeling, you'll get this. It's dust everywhere, constant trips to the hardware store, noise, piles of tools and supplies, and endless frustration. But don't despair. I won't forget about my loyal readers — I'll absolutely share the funny and horrifying moments with you so you can laugh or cry right along with me on this journey. Nothing will be predictable between now and fall, so be sure to open each email, because you never know what fun nugget will be in store for you. This weekend's construction was worth it. We bought this house six years ago on five acres. I fell in love with the property and the view, but I walked into the master bath, walked right back out, and said, "Nope, not for me." It was gross. But we were watching the market here climb rapidly — homes weren't going down the longer they sat; they were going up! So I sat down one night when I couldn't sleep and crunched the numbers. I came up with a plan that night: the first room remodeled would be the master bath. The next morning I shared the plan with my husband and we went back for a second look. We've been here six years now, and all the bedrooms and bathrooms are done. The shop was torn down and rebuilt with a studio apartment above — that took two years, with some work still left — and now we need to finish the siding, roof, laundry room, kitchen, living room, and front porch. This will not look like the same place when we're done, but I'm enjoying the journey. Nothing too crazy happened this weekend, other than I finally figured out where the mice I keep a trap out for are coming in. That will definitely be fixed. And we discovered some scary wiring issues — also to be fixed. |
