Idaho State Daughters of the American Revolution ConferenceIf you have been with me for a while you already know this, but I have so many new readers in the last few months that I'm going to start back at the beginning. I began researching my family genealogy over twenty years ago, and I quickly had two things on my bucket list that I held on to for years through raising children, going back to school at forty, a new career, moving, remodeling, and all the other crazy chaos that creeps into life. Well, in the last year I can say I have checked two things off of that bucket list. First, I joined the DAR. We'll get to that a bit later. Second, I became an author and published some of those amazing ancestor stories that had been banging around in this head of mine for at least a decade. This weekend I witnessed the amazing culmination of both of those dreams coming together to share the same space. I am currently sitting here at one of the tables at the Idaho State DAR conference writing to each of you and feeling this amazing accomplishment. And each of you deserves a big thank you for making this possible. By the way, I do my newsletters two or three days in advance, so by the time you get this, I'll be back home and back to my not so boring life. I had a lot of amazing conversations this weekend with other ladies that love history and genealogy, and they loved that some of my books are based on the lives of my ancestors. It's amazing how so many of us want a way to connect with the past that isn't boring but helps us feel like we are right there beside our ancestor, experiencing their life with them. It was amazing to discover I'm not alone in this feeling. By day two of the three day event I had sold out of all the books I had donated to my chapter for fundraising. It was a very gratifying experience, especially knowing that that fund raising will go to support veterans and their families, help with preservation projects, and education. I know some of you getting my newsletter this morning signed up because we met at the conference, so thank you and I hope you continue to enjoy the books. I know I certainly enjoyed meeting all the amazing ladies at the conference. The conference was packed full of events and amazing conversations with ladies that share the same passions of genealogy, historical preservation, honoring our veterans, and helping our community. This entire experience has left me energized to go back home and work with our chapter to come up with more community outreach events and of course more stories to write about. Okay, so enough of my rambling. I'm going to skip the weekly question because, well, I rambled. What can I say, there was just no shortage of material for this week's newsletter, but I promise I won't bore you in Thursday's newsletter if this is not of any interest to you and all you want are books and more books. And without further ado, below are the reasons you come here. |
